Paradise Lost

One thing I love about my housing estate is that due to the fact that may expats live here, you don’t see many kids around, even on a bright Sunday morning like today. It’s almost 11am right now and the pool is still empty, and there isn’t a single soul seen walking around. Paradise for me, ghost town for others.

I would really love to find more places around here which offer cosy dining and drinks without the hustle and bustle of too many people. Holland Village used to be one such place, but as the transport systems connect more and more of Singapore, these little hidden havens start getting more and more attention and get less and less cosy. You get pubs and restaurants opening up specially to draw in the mainstream crowd, and you get exactly the mainstream crowd coming in, prepared to party the entire night away. I personally rather it quiet. It’s kind of a dilemna, mainly because for people like me who do not own cars, accessibility is a problem if you wanna reach slightly more outskirted (or in the singaporean slang, ulu) places, and yet you wanna go there to enjoy the peace and quiet.

I miss the days where Holland Village was this mini paradise in the middle of a couple of housing estates. Unbelievably surreal, yet a fantastic place to hang out in. It’s becoming less and less of that now.
