Tv programs.

I must confess, I don’t watch much local TV. Reasons amount to having few channels to choose from, a singular media company controlling all media, lack of quality, blah blah blah.

I must applaud firstly arts central for creating interesting programs on air. Namely, 9 Lives which I’ve had the sad displeasure of missing 20 mins of. Still, its a great series and I will be definitely be following it.

Apart from that, Grey’s Anatomy’s on TV which is good. But what’s unexpected is Scrubs which runs after that. They have finally continued the season after so long.

toilets.

So I was peeing at the toilet of “Bukit Batok” Station where I noticed that they have disposable toilet seat covers for sale at $1 a piece. Now when I was visited the States, they had these stuff, free in every cubicle too.

So much for being a garden state. Bring on the automatic water taps too!

MRT.

Like many Singaporeans, I take the MRT regularly to get to where I have to be — School, Work, Leisure.

One of the things I like to do would be to pop in them headphones and tune out to music. Then, letting the scenery (or lack of it when underground) lull my mind into a trance where it could be alone to think.

Its been so often that I’ve grown to like the times of selfish introspection and kinda miss it when I don’t get to travel to places often. I wonder what it’ll be like when I start driving.

With the breakneck pace of life in Singapore, coffee houses like Starbucks and Coffee Bean use take-away plastic cups suited for the buy-and-move crowd that frequent them. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered a Rhumba Frappachino and recieved it in a glass cup instead. I guess the main reason was because the Liang Court branch probably does not recieve much consumer flow hence they’re able to serve in cups while being able to wash them up quickly before the next few customers come.

Does add a nice touch to the whole thing , like Jeremy says.

It all links.

Speaking of public transportation. I was on this bus the other day and observed that it was rather cool that Singapore’s public transportation service probably is the backbone for the younger generation.

It was service 67 and it takes a route through some fairly well to do neighbourhoods and some that were just like the ordinary folks that you and I make up. So these JC kids were alighting at different stops along the route, at different estates.

And the one thing in common other than the school they were from? The same bus service they take.

I think I’m definitely one of those people who have been so pampered by the transport system over here that I keep expecting the bus services to improve themselves, when they really don’t have any need to do so. Compared to many other countries, we probably have one of the most organised and efficient transport networks in the region, and I’ve seen many visitors to Singapore commenting about how great the transport system, especially the bus services are. Makes me kind of proud to hear that.

But it is also somewhat natural for humans to not be content with the status quo and ask for more. As a result we start finding faults instead of noticing the good points. Call it a matter of perspective as you will. I read this comic strip once about the difference in the bus services between now and the past, and it went something like : ” in the past, you waited for the bus, but now, the bus waits for you”. I somewhat agree. There are nice drivers out there.

I should probably stop blaming the public transport system. It’s probably due to the fact that there are more and more cars on our roads nowadays and it’s really starting to congest the town areas. I gotta learn to be more tolerant.
