Hey! Gorgeous at NUS

Paparazzi Monkey strikes again. This time conveniently on the campus of NUS.

Today was the filming of Hey! Gorgeous, the varsity pageant reality TV program that seeks to find the school hunks and babes across the universities and tertiary institutions in Singapore.

The stage, pre-show

According to the Mediacorp Channel U website, the show “incorporates online voting with reality voting, Hey! Gorgeous is a talent scouting programme that scours Singapore’s tertiary institutions for students blessed with great genes. Each episode will also feature a celebrity alumnus of the school as guest host!”

Hosts of the show: (l-r) Dasmond Koh, Fiona Xie and Ben Yeo

The contestants are either self-nominated or nominated by others on the official website. These nominees will than go through a round of online voting before the production crew going down to the school to select the contestants.

Well, the show claims that “aren’t just looking for airheads; short-listed candidates must perform a talent item to impress their fellow school mates who will then vote for their favourite. The winning hunk and babe will represent their school to strut their stuff against their cohorts from nine other tertiary institutions in Singapore.”

The contestants of NUS

Each episode features one of the 9 institutions to selection just one pair of hunk and babe to enter the semi-finals. I was lucky enough to walk by the filming of the NUS episode. There was already a large crowd before the show even began. I mean, seriously, where did they find these people?

The Audience

The semi-finals will be held on the beach which apparently will allow the contestants to demonstrate their “youthful vitality”. 5 “hunks” and 5 “babes” will enter the grand final which will be telecast live for more SMS voting. It’s like Miss Universe meets Prom Night meets American Idol.

The 9 institutions featured include Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts; Nanyang Polytechnic; Nanyang Technological University; National University of Singapore; Ngee Ann Polytechnic; Raffles Design Institute; Republic Polytechnic; Singapore Management University; Singapore Polytechnic; and Temasek Polytechnic.

So if you are at any of these schools, be sure to watch out for them.

Hey! Gorgeous debuts on Channel U, Monday August 27 @ 8pm.

Somehow, Singaporean producers just love doing this.

And interestingly enough, people ARE watching!
